i would not recommend ANY of my real estate agents, all located in cihangir and gumussuyu... i hate those people! since when is renting an apartment like buying an overpriced fake carpet. i will never get used to this.

Go on...do 'im!
I hate the real estate game here. Have to pay so much out and the agents don't really work solely for you; they get paid from the rentor too! I got landed with a place next to a drumming circle club and a reggae bar so no sleep until 5am. The agent said she forgot to mention it. But she took USD1200 payment for her ''services'' quite easily. Live and learn!

Agree that 99% of emlaks here are shite and cant be trusted as far as you can spit a house brick, but one of the basic rules is always visit a flat at different times of the day before you rent it then you wont be on top of a disco and always make sure you meet the owner and see the tapu then you wont be renting from some twat who doesent actualy own the flat and is just looking after the keys. I am sure the members can produce a checklist for people before renting but there are your first two for the list

Just read your posting , out of interest when you were looking for an apartment did your wife sign any agreement with this guy or any other Real Estate offices, as in the small print, even if you find a property through your own efforts as a contract was signed the Real Estate companies and others will have a valid claim for commision due to the binding terms of the contract. However, No contract No commision.

OK here is the latest update. I thought I would be fair so I sat down with the estate agents (not the komisyoncu) and worked out a deal with them and the landlord. We agreeed to finish and close this subject. I paid then a certain figure on new years eve and thought that would be that. The komisyoncu came around tonight and I heard him upstairs with the land lords daughter going on and on. I went up to have a look and heard him say that he wasnt interested in the money but wanted me out of the appartment. Then the landlord came out and told him where to go. He started shouting at the landlord which got him going so me and the landlord forcibly removed him from the building. I then followed him out to make sure he wouldnt damage my car. He started calling me names so I started walking towards him with a few of my pleastantries and he ran off. His name is nejat and works the yenikoy area. My landlord has been in touch with the estate agents involved and is getting him sacked. If I see him again its just one quick phone call and he will be in the park orman with the local constabulary being aquainted with a fist or 2. Let this be a warning to any house hunters in the Yenikoy/Emirgan area.
