OK here is one for those that wish to research. Where is the cheapest beer to be had?
birahanes and supermarkets not allowed, basically somewhere that isnt a dive for alcholics.
After ramadan is over I will be all too happy to participate in this important research mission.

there's Arsen Lupen in Taksim, that serves 50cl pints (not the measly efes glass) for 2.5 MTL. u just need to deal with the occasionally terrible linkinpark or avril lavigne song and the mainly young unwashed longhaired crowd.

there's a place called Blaze Rock Cafe, on the yesilcam street. they have 2.500TL for the 50cl beer, as well the music there is alternative pop classic!!? so, now we have to find the place that beats the going price...

So far Selin`s place sounds the best. At least I dont have to dress up to go there. any where that sells efes by the bucket...sorry pitcher?
2.5 milyon is still a price to be beaten. what about the asian side? havent they got anything there?

If my memories are good, you can find bear cheaper, around 2 millons(2M100), in a bar closed to the bowling in taksim. There are 2 or 3 bars, and one is the cheapest! Sorry but i can't tell you the street, but i'm sure you know where it is. Also it's a rock place and the honor is very nice. one night after the closing of every places, me and my friend we went there for a last drink. They accept us, and offer a the last one. Very commercial and very nice!!

A ha! Roumeli Cafe on istiklal, TKP's building, has 2MTL 50cl beers and cheap food to go with it. its not a loud place at all, more like a cafe then a bar, not necessarily alternative but not pop commercial either. Great to sit, chat and drink loads of efes.
Another place is *like* a beerhane but not really. its biraevi in the balýk pasaj, terrible easylistening music, terrible deco, terrible smoke and fish smells but the beer is 2.250 MTL, the accompagnying mezze are always good and lets face it, its super popular with the no fuss no muss locals.
i've been doing my research. biraevi is closed for ramazan. shame.

Sounds good to me. seems like we wont be able to find a place for 1.5 milyon then I guess. actually 10 million for 5 beers sounds like a reasonable night out. now I just have to work out how many I can consume and yet still be able to walk and get the dolmus home. I think I will give the old birahane a miss as I will have to go a week with no deodrant to fit into that place. by the way keep up the good work on your research project as we will be expecting you to escort us to these establishments as Osiere is whining for another drunken night out.

Hmmm.... a research project I could quite happily undertake till my liver gives out!
Can't add to any of the Istanbul ones I'm afraid, but if anyone fancies a wee trip down to Fethiye then I reckon I've got a winner here.
Went down the boatyard near our apartment last month to have alook at my friends new boat (Turkish friend, working boat!) and in the bar next door they sell a large, 500ml I think, Efes for 1.5mil!
Not the most salubrious surroundings but at least it's got a nice view!

I went to a place last weekend in Taksim. It had live Turkish music (she was pretty good) and she even sang some English stuff. The bar was small but not a dive. 50ccl's for 2.5mil. But at the end of the night it ended up being much cheaper. for 4 people we paid 45 mil and that included some cigs. I should mention that I was a "bit" tipsy, so that was a good 30 mil right there

A board outing to the seaside! Cool...gonna hire a bus and fill it up with Efes for the trip? Or pay the kings ransom to THY?
Keep me posted, if its late in the month we may be down there.
