Don't you know? The best part on the business trip to Ankara is the way back home in the evening ;D

Ankara sucks. My dad lived there for 3 years and it was awful.
Also, the last time I was there I ate Iskender (spelling?) and was sick for days. The best part was that it was supposed to be the best place in Ankara to eat the stuff, and thats all they served.
Theres a reason why all the young people leave.

Awwww come on Ankara isn't that bad! Sure it is boring compared to Istanbul but hey! I like Ankara because I can hop in my car and drive anywhere....generally park where Iwant to and I almost never get lost. There really are some good resturants - I like Çalgan out in Alacaatli Koy - great food, great atmosphere, great views. So we don't have the bosphorous or Istiklal Cad. but we do have enough diplomats and burocrats to choke a horse! (ooops another reason to stay out of town!) Some day they will finish all the road work and I'll be able to get to work in 15 min. Well I can dream can't I??

Hi ladyT and welcome. good to have someone who can defend Ankara. Maybe you can invite some more of your friends here so Ankara can be defended better. Personally I will always prefer Istanbul. ;D

I am a small town girl so Ankara suits me well enough. I too love Istanbul, to visit! At least in Ankara I can drive and not get lost - too often. cheers

Ankara is like any capitol city in the world. Full of burocrats and diplomats..that said there are some good points. The castle area is getting better all the time, antique shopping is good up there. We have some excelent places to eat and easy shopping. The problem with ankara is that all people ever see is Kizilay and the grey buildings down town. Tunali Hilmi has excelent shopping and atmosphere even in winter. I recommend Ankara in the spring or early summer. Worth a trip IMHO. Lady T

Great. the more info on Ankara the better. try and get rid of its reputation. Tell us. Where is the best place to go for a night out? Any bars you recommend?
