As some of you know, and some don't both Steve and I have experience with the moving business. Steve is currently working for a moving company in Istanbul and I recently left one. If you have any questions both of us would be more than happy to help you.

Kelly and Steve
I need some real help. Do either of you know about expired visas? Mine has run out and I am running around trying to figure out what to do? I want to go apply for a residency visa but I know my old visa is expired. Do you know anyone who has been through this? Please help!!! I am desperate.

that's gonna be big bucks .. are you self-employed? you should have taken a quick trip to bulgaria on the train. it would have been cheaper than the fine!!
good luck.

hahhaa....you're under stress...you're 'imploding'!!!
relax...the hardest part now is finding time to GET to where you need to go to get the permit organized.
isn't your employer responsible for this? i started teaching in turkey in 1990...my employer had to do the paperwork...
i'm still employed, but no longer teaching (masallah!) and my employer does the dirty work...
i am lucky and i know it.

I have just gotten a contract to work at World of English and I am trying to at least get legal again in the country. I will have a meeting with the manager of the school about my work visa once I get legal again... Thank you for all of your help. Turkey is really a whole different country. Nothing is easy. You talk to one person and they say to call this number...for that number you have to pay to have a pin number ... then they tell you you have to go to Ankara to get information. I can't just hop over to Ankara every day. AGHHH I feel like ripping my hair out. I have heard you have to go back to the US to wait on the work visa. I really hope not because I have no place to go back to and wait. What do you do now for work?

I have gone over my visa 3 times in the past, once 4 months, once 6 and the other 11. you can pay the fine at the airport which I did last time (you cant bribe them, I tried it). Its generally around $100 but that was a few years ago. why not take a flight to cyprus and pay the fine at the airport. this fine how ever will be written in your passport.

starman...i believe you'll find the fine has greatly increased!! depending on how over the edge it's gone.
five years ago the office had to pay over $500...it was their mistake and besides, i'm worth it!!

Sigh...looks like I am going to have to shell out at least 500 mil TL..... at the very least. Why did I wait so long??? Nothing else to do but bite the bullet and fork it over....Thanks everyone for you help. I wish I knew the exact amount. I am afraid I will get to the airport and it will twice as much and I won't have enough cash....

fefesmd2003, there's a website dedicated to ESL teachers (globally - with a forum for Turkey) which also has quite a bit of info on visa's for teachers etc. Not sure I'm allowed to post other web addresses on here so pm me and I'll send you the details. Good luck with the fine. Iman
